Almost a week ago now, Harley moved into his new apartment! On Friday we loaded up the elevators with bags and bags and boxes and boxes and mushroom- and elephant-shaped baskets (don't ask) and tables and picture frames and filled up Gosia's car in two rounds. We unloaded and filled up a smaller elevator a more few times to get everything up to the fifth floor and even then, Harley still had things left over to move from the old apartment. On Saturday, he hosted his belated birthday/housewarming party in the evening and in less than 24 hours, the apartment looked as though he'd been living there for years.
We ate crisps and sweets from the cutest paper boxes and cups and everyone praised Gosia for her watermelon shark. We drank champagne from the fancy glasses that looked like a glass within a glass (don't ask) and Harley gave tours around his new place to every new person that arrived. We talked and laughed and drank and laughed some more. I caught up with friends I hadn't had a chance to see in so long simply because of work and holidays and.. work. And finally at midnight, I joined Gosia and Kaska outside for a "smoke break" and we collected the present and cake from the car. With Eddie still inside and in control of the surprise, we lit the candles in the hallway and went back into the apartment. And then three steps inside the candles were out already!! Backing out and hissing at Kaska to come back with the lighter, we quickly composed ourselves, I held my breath and walked slowly, slowly back into the room. And YAYYY at last we had our belated birthday surprise! Harley was literally squirming at all eyes on him singing the birthday song.
Gosia presented him with his present from us and ohmygod I don't remember it being so absolutely huge when we first saw it. We found him a mushroom-shaped retro/vintage lamp in an interior and furniture close to Maria Pita and successfully added to his never-ending lamp collection. With his new apartment coming already furnished, the landlady already filled it with her own collection of cool and arty designer lamps and lampshades and light fixtures and we were distinctly made well aware of this when Harley exclaimed, "I don't need anymore fucking lamps, do I? You have to stop me if I ever want to buy another one!!" Hmm.. But our little (quite large) orange mushroom was such a perfect fit in his cute and quirky collection of collections, I feel like it was a good choice. He seemed to like it anyway, ha.
I spent the day after attempting to be super productive and finally managed to repot all my plants and all the new ones I bought last weekend. Being so lazybones about it resulted in my mint and lavender looking so sad by the time I finally came around to potting them properly but they've kind of perked up a little since. My balcony turned out to be a little too small to organise everything so I lined my floor with giant bin bags and with the sun and the light breeze coming through the open doors I set to work on my mini garden. I set up the wooden hanging box and put my herbs in and put the rest in bigger pots. I cleared the balcony of all the old and dead plants that were left when I first moved in and brushed it clean for the first time. It was late afternoon when I finally finished. And obviously no other part of my apartment got cleaned this weekend. Another job for another day - there can only be so much cleaning to be done at one time! And today is obviously not that day because Mumma is coming to Coruña tomorrow and I'm too excited to think about much else right now!!
Looking forward to all of the eating and laughing and talking and fun of this next weekend. And it's also Eddie's last weekend here too so that will be something. One more sleep to go - coming at ya with an empty stomach!!
