Originally I had another photo in mind for this but this one is just too funny to not use. Harley is back home in England this week for his birthday which also means he misses our one year anniversary celebration together (idiot). I was rereading my post about our first day in Coruña and I realised I never mentioned that that first day, when we met Gosia and Kaska, it was also Harley's 23rd birthday! We celebrated with lunch at a restaurant chosen by him, which of course was a pizza (and pasta) restaurant. And so it came to be that La Tagliatella is now our go-to pizza place not only because it is actually the best pizza in Coruña but because it's become a happy nostalgic place for us too now.
So in true cheesy (like super duper cheesy) fashion, we had our celebratory one year anniversary dinner at La Tagliatella as an homage to the place where it all began. And what is a celebration without Harley?! Gosia sent me a couple of photo options and I spent my afternoon asking Helene if my face was the size of an A4 sheet and comparing it to what we thought Harley's face size would be in comparison in order to get an accurate scale up. I taped his photo together inconspicuously at my desk and then Gosia came with me to pick up a spare cardboard box from Kaska. We brought Harley to life on the floor of the car park just behind Gosia's car. And yes we got super weird looks and someone might have asked us what we were doing but how could we have a celebration for the four of us if not will all four of us?!
I am well aware that I sound like an absolute insane person. And yes we were stared at and whispered about during dinner. But it was so so worth it for all the fun we had! And for sure, Harley loved it too when we messaged him all the photos from the night. I think the joke fully peaked when we asked our waiter to take a group photo and we had to direct him to stand to the left side of us because Harley had to be seen and I couldn't turn him the other way..
I don't remember how long we stayed in restaurant except that my pizza was stone cold by the time I actually got around to finishing it. We reminisced about what a rollercoaster of a year we had all had for each of us, together and on our own. We talked about everything we'd been through and how much has changed since that very first day and also, how much hasn't. We are all still together. After a whole year of different friendships stopping and starting and drifting, we are still together. The four of us, still, we've stayed together like a family. They are my Coruña family.
And on that note, I will stop now before I get all mushy and gross. Well.. here's to many more years of love and friendship!
